Overtime Battle

The US flag part of the AP Moller-Maersk empire has been pulled into yet another legal battle, as the company faces a second class-action lawsuit by seafarers aiming to recover unpaid overtime pay.

Seafarers claim they are owed the payments after being sent to shore for medical reasons. In the latest case, Maersk Line Limited (MLL) is accused of breaching US mariners’ employment contracts by paying only unearned base wages but failing to pay the overtime pay that they would have earned over the course of their contracts.

MLL disputes the claim, and the courts are set to decide.
